ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Friday that a recently proposed bill in the US Senate requesting an evaluation of Pakistan's involvement in the current Afghan crisis is an "effort to shift the blame," and that Pakistan has adequate grounds to defend its path.

“Pakistan will safeguard and defend its interests and position. At a joint news conference with Denmark's foreign minister, Jeppe Kofod, Qureshi stated, "The US must recognise the role played by Pakistan in supporting the peace process."

He was replying to a question on a recent bill introduced in the US Senate that aimed to examine Pakistan's involvement before and after the Afghan Taliban took control of Kabul. Using Pakistan as a scapegoat, according to the minister, would mean ignoring the facts on the ground. Pakistan would not overlook the consequences of the proposed law, according to Qureshi, who added, "We are cognizant and can explain."

He emphasised that the measure did not have bipartisan support and was introduced by a group of Republican senators who were critical of certain US policies and opposed the US departure from Afghanistan.

The rising trajectory of Pakistan-Denmark ties was addressed, according to Qureshi, with the goal of further strengthening collaboration in a variety of sectors, including commerce, renewable energy, and parliamentary exchanges.

He applauded the signing of the Green Partnership deal with Denmark, which he claimed will allow Pakistan to strengthen its agricultural sector. He stated that Pakistan has been included in Denmark's Energy Transition Initiative.

He said the Danish foreign minister was informed on Pakistan's involvement in the peace process in Afghanistan. Qureshi addressed bringing up the issue of visa classification for Pakistan with his Danish counterpart, along with a request to modify the travel advice.

He expressed gratitude to the Danish government for their support for Pakistan's GSP Plus status. He said he informed the Danish Foreign Minister of Pakistan's tangible efforts in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and how Denmark might help Pakistan get off the grey list.

In response to a query on whether the government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan should be recognised, the Danish foreign minister said, "We are not going to recognise the Taliban government." He said that his nation will be watching to see whether the Taliban's statements were matched by their actions on a number of topics, including women's rights and minority rights. He did, however, emphasise the necessity of assisting the Afghans in order to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.

Pakistan, he said, was a crucial nation in the area. He added that Pakistan and Denmark had had diplomatic relations for 70 years and were cooperating on climate change, sustainable commerce, and renewable energy. He said that his nation was contemplating hiring additional personnel at their embassy in Pakistan to work on energy cooperation initiatives. He also commended Pakistan for its efforts to grow trees and preserve the environment.

When asked about India's illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), the Danish foreign minister stated his nation favored a peaceful diplomatic engagement.

"We completely support the EU and the UN in advocating for a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict." He replied, "This is what we want to see and what we value." Qureshi had previously provided a dossier with Koford that detailed the ongoing atrocities and war crimes perpetrated by Indian troops in IIOJ&K.
